Did you know that....
(prepare for the list)
1. I'm here on a STUDY abroad.
This is our anxiously engaged class...
(though not as anxiously "engaged" as I am.... bahaha.)
We actually assemble together twice a week! Like a real college class!
I just have never told you about it...
2. All I talk/think/focus on is usually centered on love and marriage.
Case and point:
In the class captured above, we are talking about the show Flare Path.
It takes place during WWII and centers on a young woman named Patricia.
Pat is in love - with Peter.
Pat is married - to Teddy.
To be fair, Pat loved Peter long before she ever met and married Teddy.
When Peter comes to declare his undying love for her and take her away to live happily ever after,
She says yes.
When Teddy finally opens up to her and shows her how much he loves/needs her,
She decides to stay.
It is her "duty," she says.
Was I somewhat troubled by the way they
(and many of the plays we've seen)
have emphasized the discrepancy between "love" and "marriage?"
Yup.
Did I start a whole class discussion on the topic.
Oh yeah.
Gosh - I must have SOMETHING on the brain...
3. You can't really "frolic" through a field of wild flowers.
No matter what you do, it's always going to be more of a "tromp" than a "frolic."
Exhibit A:
4. Rowing a boat is incredibly hard work.
For all the men who have the expectation of a romantic row-boating evening placed upon them
- WARNING -
practice beforehand.
It is not as easy as it looks.
But Lauren sure looked cute while she struggled!
5. Plans fail.
Scheduled for the evening was a class trip to see Flare Path in the theater.
When Rodger went to go pick up the tickets,
well, they didn't have record of our group's reservations.
So, it was cancelled.
6. When plans fail, sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands.
Did we go and buy "restricted view" tickets to Flare Path anyway?
Yup.
And it was great.
And lastly....
7. Absence makes the heart grow fonder,
but Long periods of extended absence make the heart grow obsessively and dangerously fonder.
No worries though.
Sean got back from his Memorial Day vacation tonight, so we got to chat.
Thank heavens for SKYPE!
